Configuring your DNS for Gsuite (Gmail)

In order to direct your emails to Gmail you will need to delete the default MX record that was created when your hosting was setup. Head over to the Control Panel and under Account Manager > DNS Management.

The first thing you will want to-do is delete the default MX record and "mail" A record.

Then add 5 new MX entries as below keeping in mind you need to add the dot at the end of ".COM."

Add MX Records
yourdomainname.ca.    MX    0 ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM.
yourdomainname.ca.    MX    10 ALT1.ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM.
yourdomainname.ca.    MX    10 ALT2.ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM.
yourdomainname.ca.    MX    20 ALT3.ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM.
yourdomainname.ca.    MX    20 ALT4.ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM.

Add the new "mail" record
Then we add the new mail CNAME record which points to ghs.googlehosted.com. (again dont forget the dot at the end)

mail    CNAME    ghs.googlehosted.com.

When your all done your final DNS entries should look like this.

yourdomainname.ca.    MX    0 ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM.
yourdomainname.ca.    MX    10 ALT1.ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM.
yourdomainname.ca.    MX    10 ALT2.ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM.
yourdomainname.ca.    MX    20 ALT3.ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM.
yourdomainname.ca.    MX    20 ALT4.ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM.
mail    CNAME    ghs.googlehosted.com.

Final Check

After your done scroll to the bottom of the DNS Management and click on "Modify MX Records" and make sure the option "Use this server to handle my e-mails." is un-checked!

After this is done, head over to Google Flush DNS to kick start the DNS propogation.

https://developers.google.com/speed/public-dns/cache

Choose the MX record to flush and your done!

You can check if your updates are working by testing with an MX lookup at https://mxtoolbox.com/ , just put in your domain name.
